Welcome to Arrest Stories. A nineteen-year-old man in Clovis was arrested on December fifteenth, twenty twenty-five for conspiracy to commit murder after police discovered his parents dead in their home. Here's what may have happened.
Clovis police responded to ten thirty-two York Street just before five a.m. on reports of a burglary in progress. Officers arrived to find the garage door of the home open and made contact with Darren Munoz, who had called nine-one-one.
When officers asked to speak with his parents inside the house, Munoz told them "he did not want the officer to come inside due to his parents sleeping without clothes." Munoz went into his parents' bedroom to check on them, but when he returned, officers observed that his hands were covered in blood.
Munoz then told officers that his parents were severely injured. Police entered the home and discovered fifty-eight-year-old Oscar Munoz and seventy-one-year-old Dina Munoz in bed with fatal head wounds.
According to police reports, there had been "a plan in place for several weeks or months" between Munoz and two friends to kill his parents for financial gain and stage the scene as a burglary. Investigators allege Munoz expected to inherit a large sum of money "once they were out of the picture."
The conspiracy allegedly involved Munoz allowing his accomplice Julio Zamora inside the home to carry out the murders. Police report the plan included trading an AR rifle for what they describe as a ghost Glock, a handgun without a serial number.
Surveillance video reportedly shows Munoz hiding a pistol in his waistband at five p.m. on Sunday, less than twelve hours before the murders occurred.
During questioning, Munoz initially denied calling nine-one-one, but when confronted with call logs proving otherwise, he admitted to making the emergency call reporting the burglary.
Munoz was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. He is being held without bond.
