Welcome to Arrest Stories. A professional football player was arrested in Arkansas after allegedly leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase that exceeded one hundred miles per hour through Craighead County. Here's what may have happened.
On November seventeenth, twenty twenty-five, twenty-eight-year-old Dillon Mitchell was arrested in Craighead County, Arkansas on charges of reckless driving. Mitchell, a six-foot-one, one hundred eighty-five pound receiver for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, allegedly led authorities on a dangerous pursuit that began in Lawrence County.
According to police reports, the chase started when Lawrence County Sheriff's Office was pursuing a black Ford Mustang traveling southbound on U.S. Highway sixty-three near Craighead County. Mitchell was reportedly driving the Mustang at eighty miles per hour in a fifty-five mile per hour zone when State Trooper Corporal Jeffrey Irvin spotted the vehicle, activated emergency lights and siren, and began pursuing.
Instead of stopping, Mitchell allegedly sped up and passed an eighteen-wheeler in the turning lane. The Mustang continued southbound on U.S. sixty-three at speeds exceeding one hundred miles per hour. During the pursuit, the vehicle reportedly came head-on toward Chief Archer, swerving at the last second and going through a field. The Mustang then made a U-turn, almost hitting another driver head-on, and Mitchell allegedly passed other vehicles on the shoulder.
Mitchell signed with the Blue Bombers in January on a contract worth approximately one hundred fifty thousand dollars. During the twenty twenty-five season, he made nineteen catches for one hundred ninety-three yards and one touchdown over nine regular-season games.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released a statement saying, "This morning, we learned of an incident involving Dillon Mitchell that took place last week. The club is gathering additional information and will not be providing further comment at this time."
Mitchell was held on a five thousand dollar cash-only bond.
