POLICE CHIEFS ARREST TRACED TO HALF-EMPTY WHISKEY BOTTLE

Welcome to Arrest Stories. A longtime police chief in Springfield faces domestic battery and DUI charges after an early morning disturbance call led to his arrest on February fifth, twenty twenty-six. Here's what may have happened.

Dan Ryan, the fifty-three-year-old police chief of Leland Grove, was arrested in the early morning hours following a domestic disturbance at a residence in the one thousand block of West Elliott Avenue in Springfield. Illinois State Police assisted the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office during the disturbance call that occurred just after midnight on Thursday.

According to police reports, Ryan and his girlfriend got into an argument around nine p.m. on February fourth that escalated into physical contact. Ryan allegedly pushed his girlfriend down onto a couch and pulled her hair. After the physical altercation, Ryan began damaging property throughout the house they shared.

When officers arrived at the scene, an ISP trooper observed that the house was messy and noted that the window blinds were heavily damaged and laying on the floor. The television was turned upside down, hanging off the stand it was previously sitting on. Officials stated it was clear that an altercation had taken place.

Ryan had left the residence in a department-issued patrol vehicle following the domestic incident. When officers located Ryan, he was driving a twenty sixteen Dodge with a police license plate but did not have his driver's license with him. The arresting officer noted that Ryan had glossy eyes and slow and slurred speech, with a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from him. Ryan admitted to consuming whiskey prior to driving, and officers discovered a half-empty bottle of whiskey in the back seat of his vehicle.

Ryan was immediately placed on administrative leave after his arrest and was jailed overnight. He has served with the Leland Grove Police Department since August nineteen ninety-nine. The city stated that because this is a personnel matter, they cannot provide any additional comment at this time.

All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
