Welcome to Arrest Stories. Olympic track star Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested in Orange County, Florida on charges of dangerous excessive speeding under the state's new super speeders law. Here's what may have happened.
On January twenty-ninth, twenty twenty-six, authorities in Orange County, Florida witnessed twenty-five-year-old Olympic gold medalist Sha'Carri Richardson driving her Aston Martin at one hundred four miles per hour in a sixty-five mile per hour zone on State Road four twenty-nine near Stoneybrook Parkway in Clermont.
According to police reports, Richardson was observed dangerously tailgating and traveling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists. The arresting sergeant documented that Richardson was flashing people to get out of her way and using every lane to pass other vehicles. Police noted she was following too close and at one point passed a car on the inside shoulder that had its hazard lights on.
When pulled over, police bodycam video captured Richardson's interaction with deputies. She told officers, "I did not mean to do that. My phone, I didn't even know my car was speeding." Richardson also claimed the reason for her speed was that she had an underinflated back tire and said she didn't mean to be traveling the speed she was going.
The arresting sergeant was heard telling Richardson to "wipe that smile off your face" before explaining the charges. The officer stated, "You're driving at one hundred four miles an hour in a sixty-five mile an hour zone with subpar equipment, flashing people to get out of your way, following too close, using every lane to pass everybody, cutting me off, passing a car on the inside shoulder with their hazard lights on. You're going to jail for dangerous and excessive speeding."
Richardson's arrest falls under Florida's new super speeders law. Police bodycam footage shows Richardson apologizing to the deputy and pleading numerous times not to be taken to jail. She was booked into Orange County Jail on January twenty-ninth and posted a five hundred dollar bond, securing her release on January thirtieth.
This marks Richardson's second arrest in recent months, following an incident at SeaTac Airport in Washington state in August twenty twenty-five involving Christian Coleman. Richardson won silver in the one hundred-meter dash and gold in the four by one hundred relay at the twenty twenty-four Paris Olympics.
