On January sixteenth, twenty twenty-six, Stillwater Medical Center made a reference to the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics regarding Daniel Boring, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, for allegedly diverting fentanyl and other controlled substances. The OBN began investigating the complaint that same day.
According to investigators, Boring was taking controlled substances that were intended for patients who were going into surgery or recovering from surgical procedures. The investigation revealed that Boring was allegedly ingesting fentanyl into his body while working inside operating rooms at the hospital.
Officials stated that after ingesting the fentanyl, Boring would then assist with medical procedures on patients. Law enforcement described finding multiple instances of this alleged behavior during their investigation.
An official involved in the case stated, "What our agents discovered is shocking and demonstrates a blatant disregard for the safety of patients entrusted to his care. We found multiple instances where Boring was ingesting fentanyl into his body while working inside an operating room at the hospital. After ingesting the fentanyl Boring would then assist with medical procedures on patients. One instance of this involved a minor child and another an eighty-four-year-old adult."
On January twentieth, twenty twenty-six, Daniel Boring was arrested at his home in Stillwater. He was subsequently booked into the Payne County Jail. The charges against Boring involve controlled substances as well as caretaker abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
The investigation began following a tip that a hospital employee was diverting fentanyl from patients. The case highlights concerns about drug diversion in medical settings and patient safety during surgical procedures.
