Welcome to Arrest Stories. The father of NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes was taken into custody in Texas for allegedly violating his probation by drinking alcohol on New Year's Day. Here's what may have happened.
Patrick Mahomes Senior, the fifty-five-year-old father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested Tuesday morning in Smith County, Texas for a probation violation. The former Major League Baseball pitcher was booked into Smith County Jail at eight fifty-three AM during what was supposed to be a routine meeting with his probation officer.
According to authorities, Mahomes Senior had a high alcohol reading on his SCRAM alcohol ankle monitor on January first. The device, which he was required to wear as part of his probation conditions, detected alcohol consumption on New Year's Day. However, when Mahomes Senior provided urine samples on January fifth and ninth, both lab reports came back negative for alcohol.
Mahomes Senior has been serving five years probation since August twenty twenty-four, when he pleaded guilty to a driving while intoxicated charge. The original DWI arrest occurred on February third, twenty twenty-four in Smith County, just over a week before his son led the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl championship.
His probation conditions include community service, Alcoholics Anonymous classes, and enrollment in a repeat DWI offender program. Officials noted that any violation of probation terms could result in jail time and potential prison sentences. Mahomes Senior now faces up to ten years in prison for allegedly running afoul of his parole conditions.
The former pitcher, who played eleven seasons in Major League Baseball before retiring after the two thousand three campaign, had previously expressed embarrassment about how his legal troubles affected his son's career. Smith County probation officers took him into custody Tuesday morning after obtaining a warrant for the probation violation.
