MANS $100K HOUSING SCAM UNRAVELED BY ONE VICTIMS MOVE-IN DAY

Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-five-year-old man was arrested in Stamford, Connecticut following a three-hour police standoff after allegedly running a one hundred thousand dollar rental housing scam in New York City. Here's what may have happened.

Jerry Genesis found himself at the center of a dramatic arrest at The Urby apartments on Greyrock Place in Stamford. A Special Response Team was forced to breach the building after negotiations with Genesis broke down during the lengthy standoff.

Genesis was allegedly fleeing from New York authorities after skipping bail on previous high-level financial crime charges. The thirty-five-year-old had been indicted in February of twenty twenty-five for a separate refund scam involving his personal training business.

According to prosecutors, Genesis orchestrated an elaborate rental scheme targeting New York's competitive housing market. Between November nineteenth, twenty twenty-four and July thirty-first, twenty twenty-five, Genesis advertised apartments for sublease throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn neighborhoods including East Village, Chinatown, Nolita, Chelsea, and downtown Brooklyn.

Genesis allegedly falsely represented that he had apartments available for sublease through a third-party broker. He arranged viewings with potential tenants and signed sublease agreements identifying himself as the lessor. Victims were required to pay move-in fees ranging from eight thousand one hundred dollars to seventeen thousand two hundred dollars.

Prosecutors stated, "As alleged, Jerry Genesis took advantage of New York's extremely competitive housing market to steal hard-earned money from eight individuals who trusted him to find them apartments. One of the victims had already started moving into the apartment before he realized it was a scam, leaving him without a home."

One victim described additional financial harm, stating, "Instead of crediting me, he used my credit card to rack up more than twenty-two thousand three hundred dollars in unauthorized charges which he never reversed, despite his promises."

Genesis is currently being held without bail on charges including grand larceny and bail jumping.

All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
