Welcome to Arrest Stories. A forty seven year old former Harrison County deputy and D.A.R.E. officer has been arrested on charges of using artificial intelligence to create nude images of children. Here's what may have happened.
West Virginia State Police arrested Larry Brewer on Tuesday on three counts of employment or use of minor to produce obscene matter or assist in doing sexually explicit conduct. Brewer, who previously served as a Harrison County deputy and D.A.R.E. officer, allegedly used an AI image creation tool to produce nude images of a juvenile.
The investigation into Brewer began in March of twenty twenty five. Earlier this year, someone discovered the images on Brewer's iPad, which led to the criminal charges. Brewer had voluntarily left the Harrison County Sheriff's Office in July of twenty twenty two to accept a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
During his court appearance, Brewer entered a not guilty plea to all charges. A judge set his bond at one hundred thousand dollars cash, surety or property bond.
The Harrison County Sheriff's Office released a statement regarding the arrest of their former employee. The department stated, "As always, it is the policy of the Harrison County Sheriff's Office to expect and ensure that all members and employees adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards while performing law enforcement duties." The statement continued, "We remain fully committed to protecting the citizens we serve and maintaining public trust."
The charges against Brewer come as West Virginia lawmakers have been addressing issues related to artificial intelligence and its potential misuse. In July of twenty twenty five, the West Virginia Legislature passed Senate Bill one hundred ninety eight, though specific details about this legislation were not immediately available.
Brewer's case highlights growing concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence technology to create inappropriate images involving minors. The former law enforcement officer's background as both a deputy and D.A.R.E. officer, who would have worked with children in educational settings, adds another layer to this case.
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
