Welcome to Arrest Stories. A twenty-three-year-old Rome man was arrested on New Year's Day after allegedly kidnapping his five-month-old infant son from a local hotel. Here's what may have happened.
On January second, two thousand twenty-five, around four forty in the morning, Julion Frank Mazzo allegedly took five-month-old baby Harley Sparks from the Oyo Hotel on Turner McCall Boulevard in Rome, Georgia. According to police reports, Mazzo is the noncustodial father of the infant and did not have custody of the child at the time of the incident.
The baby was reported missing just before five in the morning on New Year's Day. Police say Mazzo forcibly took the child from the mother without lawful authority. The infant was last seen at the Oyo Hotel around four forty in the morning, wearing a white onesie.
The Rome Police Department responded quickly to the situation, posting an alert on social media just after five in the morning asking for public assistance in locating the missing child. The department shared photos of the infant, the suspect's vehicle, and Mazzo himself through their social media channels to help generate leads from the community.
The coordinated effort proved successful. Police recovered baby Harley Sparks safely within two hours of issuing the initial social media alert. The child was found and returned to his mother less than three hours after being reported missing, around six fifteen in the morning on January first.
Following the safe recovery of the infant, Julion Mazzo was arrested and charged with kidnapping. He is currently being held without bond as the case moves forward through the legal system.
The incident highlights the effectiveness of rapid police response and community engagement through social media platforms during critical missing person cases involving children.
