Welcome to Arrest Stories. A thirty-nine-year-old Collier County man has been arrested for aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence, seven months after fatally shooting his thirteen-year-old son. Here's what may have happened.
Gregory Anthony Zecca was taken into custody in Collier County on February fourth on charges stemming from the death of his son Anthony. The incident occurred six months prior to his arrest when Zecca consumed alcohol over several hours at a local establishment before purchasing additional alcohol.
According to police reports, Zecca later went to a friend's residence along Sumter Grove Way where he used both alcohol and marijuana. Zecca and his son Anthony were watching a UFC fight on television at the friend's home when the fatal incident unfolded.
Investigators determined that Zecca repeatedly handled a firearm in the child's presence, practicing drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing the weapon. The firearm had initially been rendered safe by removing the magazine and clearing a live round from the chamber.
However, police reports indicate the magazine was later reinserted and a round chambered. Gregory then discharged a single shot, fatally striking the child.
The case gained additional attention due to Zecca's family connection. He is the stepson of television personality Dog the Bounty Hunter, whose real name is Duane Chapman. Zecca is the son of Chapman's wife Francie Frane and her late husband.
Authorities conducted an extensive investigation before making the arrest. Officials stated they conducted an exhaustive and thorough investigation, examining every element of what happened through witness statements, forensic testing, subpoenas, search warrants, and more.
One official described the case as a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy, commending detectives for their hard work and professionalism in uncovering the facts in an incredibly difficult case.
Zecca is scheduled to appear for arraignment on March second. The charges include aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence.
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
